7 day Cultural and Culinary Tour

8 – 14 September 2019

Of course we will be eating like Sicilians!

Off the toe of the boot of Italy, lies an island called Sicily. A fertile mix of geographical and cultural diversities. Many civilisations stormed the island through the centuries leaving their mark. Combine this, with generations of hardworking people, lots of sunshine, eruptions from a volcano creating fertile soil and high quality cuisine, and you have an island of perplexing contradictions, interesting and magnetic.

After landing in Catania, we travel to the beautiful small town of Taormina.

Taormina is spectacularly situated on a terrace of Monte Tauro, with views westward to Mt Etna. It is a beautiful small town, reminiscent of Capri or a town on the Amalfi coast. This little place has seduced a line of artists, writers, royalty and aristocrats. We will spend two days in this chic, sophisticated and shopping paradise.

On to Syracuse, which is one of Sicilys most appealing cities. This was considered to be the most beautiful city of the ancient world. Across the bridge to the enchanting island of Ortygia, we’ll find our hotel. The island is made up of beautiful alleyways to wonder in, that lead to the sea. Sit at one of the many cafes and people watch, or stroll leisurely while we choose one of the amazing restaurants. This will be the perfect place to engage in the ritual of passiegeina, mingling in the reflected evening glow of Piazza de Duomo’s vast marble pavements.

Sicilian produce is everything we wish for, and I’m sure what we will long for once we leave. Red juicy ripe tomatoes, gorgeous cheeses, big tasty aubergines, they say the best gelato in the world, local salsiccia and of course cannoli!

One day we will drive to the “baroque triangle” which is an area of hilltop towns, famous for their lavish baroque architecture. Modica, a bustling town known for its amazing chocolate, Noto for Sicily’s most beautiful street and Ragusa divided in two. The perfect way to bid Sicily farewell, is a lunch in a picturesque restaurant in a beautiful little fishing village with amazing views, where the sea and sky never end.
